Voter confidence ‘down’

The vast majority of parliamentary and local elections held in May were well run – but voter confidence in the system has declined significantly.

The Electoral Commission says immediate action is needed to ensure voter confidence in future ballots, and reiterated its call for people still queuing at polling stations at 10pm to be allowed to vote. Around 30% of voters were not confident that this year’s elections were well run, compared to just 4% in 2009. See www.electoralcommission.org.uk
