EU policy and lobbying

With over 50 per cent of legislation implemented locally originating in the EU, local government awareness of upcoming EU legislative proposals is crucial. Previous EU proposals have changed the way councils provide services, for instance the Landfill Directive radically changed the way we treat waste, and procurement directives shape how we buy goods and services.

The LGA anticipates initiatives that may impact on councils, and work with the full range of partners in Whitehall and Brussels to ensure the best possible legislative outcomes for local government and the communities they serve.
