Uneven rural recovery
Your article on the uneven challenges facing UK cities as they recover from the recession (first 449) can be echoed across rural England.
The Commission for Rural Communities has recently published a discussion paper on this subject, called ‘The potential impacts on rural communities of future public austerity’ (see www.ruralcommunities.gov.uk).
Cllr Andrew Bowles, chair of the LGA’s rural commission, among other local government colleagues, helped us in this project with provoking ideas and suggestions. We hope it will help rural councillors and their councils see some glimmers of light in the future.
Crispin Moor, executive director
