First look - Signs of spring

Walkers in Harpenden

Signs of spring – Participants on a health walk in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, came across an impressive crop of snowdrops during a walk through Gustard Wood in the snow.

The Harpenden health walks take place throughout the year and are coordinated and led by a team of volunteers. They are provided free of charge by the countryside management service which is supported by St Albans city and district council, Hertfordshire county council and the local primary health care trust, among others.

Cllr Sheila Burton, St Albans council portfolio holder for sport and healthy living, said: “It was because I was so impressed with the Harpenden health walks that I asked the countryside management service to introduce more walks across the district. I commend the committed team of volunteer walk leaders, who make it possible for the walks to take place.”
