In 2007 both Sir Ronnie Flanagan's Review of Policing and the Crime and Communities Review argued that neighbourhood policing would only be successful where it was integrated with the other public services in an area contributing to community safety by tackling crime and anti-social behaviour. The Home Office has already carried out work with CLG on identifying examples where effective neighbourhood partnerships are already in place and working out the core principles that lead to good practice. Following its commitment in the Policing Green Paper the Home Office is now looking to promote the integration of neighbourhood policing with other local public services.
This one day conference will provide a unique opportunity to:
- Find out about the government's objectives of integrating neighbourhood policing and neighbourhood services;
- Learn about the IDeA/NPIA exemplar programme and the best practice this has identified;
- Discuss the Home Office's core principles which lead to effective partnership working at a neighbourhood level; and
- Hear from councils and police forces about what has worked for them in ensuring they work more closely with partners.
Speakers at the conference include:
- Vernon Coaker MP, Parliamentary under Secretary of State for Crime Reduction;
- Bob Jones, Chairman, Association of Police Authorities; and
- Cllr Richard Kemp, Deputy Chairman, Local Government Association.
