Following from last year's success the LGA is hosting its second annual Preventing Violent Extremism conference this year.
The last 12 months have seen significant changes in the approach by government and local authorities to the Prevent agenda. This one-day conference will showcase the work that councils have delivered over the past year and discuss the challenges ahead for Prevent. It is designed to assist councillors and policy officers to gain the knowledge and confidence required to provide effective leadership to their communities. Delegates will hear from proven practitioners and specialists in designing and delivering effective Prevent programmes. There will also be opportunities to discuss what the Government's re-launched Counter Terrorism strategy and its emphasis on shared values means for your council and local communities.
Conference delegates will have the unique opportunity to:
- discuss with peers the wide array of issues and the variety of approaches to the Prevent agenda;
- learn from other councils about how they deliver their Prevent programme; and
- find out about the dedicated support available to elected members and councils on Prevent.
Speeches and a range of practical workshops will be delivered by senior representatives from within local government as well as senior officials from a range of external organisations.
