The Sustainable Communities Act 2007 offers an opportunity for councils and communities to put forward new thinking on how to enhance the economic, social and environmental sustainability of their area.
At this conference, the provisions of the Sustainable Communities Act 2007 will be launched. As the Act requires, the Secretary of State will invite proposals from communities and councils which will contribute to sustainability and wellbeing in local areas. These could advocate changes to the law, and changes to which body provides particular public services. From October 2008 onwards, the LGA, as 'Selector' under the Act, will receive, consider and short-list proposals made under the Act.
