Vision for services for children and young people affected by domestic violence

Every Child Matters and the 2004 Children Act have set out the vision for children's services for the next decade. Safety and Justice and the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004, offer positive improvement in responses to domestic violence across government. Vision for services for children and young people affected by domestic violence offers a pathway for services for children experiencing domestic violence which connects the two. This guidance offers a template which directors of children's services, cabinet members with lead responsibility for children and their local safeguarding children's boards, working with domestic violence partnerships can use to incorporate the needs of children experiencing domestic violence in planning children's services. Commissioning guidance will not itself produce new resources to fill the gaps in services for children experiencing domestic violence, but it does help provide a tool to identify their needs and incorporate them into service planning.
