Estimating the scale and impacts of migration at the local level
Published by ICoCo
Commissioned by the LGA, this research by the Institute of Community Cohesion (ICoCo) looks at the scale of recent population changes and the impact on local services.
International migration is a growing global phenomenon. Long term migration to the UK has increased from 320,000 in 1997 to 574,000 in 2006. Out migration has also increased during this period, but more slowly.
Migration has many beneficial impacts but is increasing the UK population and, with it, the demands upon local services. This report presents a wealth of material, provided by local authorities, about the scale and nature of the impacts on local services.
Please note that this report is freely available electronically and limited hard copies available to LGA member authorities.
For non LGA member authorities and other organisations a hard copy is available to order from LGconnect on online below, priced at £20.00.
