The European and international unit provides an information and support service to councillors and local authorities as well as working with politicians internationally to get the best deal from the European Union and worldwide. This work involves monitoring and working to influence what is happening abroad, highlighting problems and opportunities and promoting the skills and knowledge of local government.
The unit undertakes policy development and lobbying as well as providing the UK secretariat to elected member delegations on several international institutions. We develop and maintain international links including twinning and technical cooperation, delivering development cooperation projects in developing and transitional countries.
