Regional bodies

The Local Government Association is the national voice for local government, however, its voice is the sum of all parts. We work with and for councils to achieve the best possible outcomes for its communities at all levels of government and beyond.

The diverse nature of England means that different localities often identify closely with specific regions. In response to the need for a regional dimension in policy development, regional local government associations exist to promote the regional aspect within many policies and government programs.

Regional Bodies in England and Wales

Whilst the level of decentralisation is not consistent across England, the need for a local government voice at all levels is.

There are 13 regional local government associations in England. They broadly follow the boundaries of the Governments English Regions. Apart from the South East of England, each region is represented by a single regional local government association.
